	New asphalt pavements seem dense and indestructible, but actually it is rather porous and begins to deteriorate immediately.
Driveway Seems Fine
	The sun oxidizes asphalt pavements, hardening the binder that holds the pavement together. The pavement becomes brittle and begins to crack.
Sun Oxidation Occurs
	Water enters the cracks. The expansion and contraction of water during freeze-thaw cycles enlarges the cracks.
Water Enters The Cracks
	The water seeps through the surface, softening the base. The pavement buckles and separates under heavy loads.
